Game 1 in the Battle for the Pleuric System

So before I start writing just going to get into a little bit of what/how I am going to be doing these posts. They are going to be battle reports but only to the point of presenting the parties involved in the conflict and the resolution of said conflict. The rest of the page is going to be of a story type pattern which will fill out the details and hopefully paint the picture of what had transpired. So without further a due lets begin.
++++An Imperial research team was sent to the Pleuric system in the Van Reilac Belt to investigate rumors of a possible ancient relic possibly even a new power source. Upon entering the atmosphere of the planet the lander transporting them to the surface of the planet is struck by a foreign object and begins to spiral out of control plummeting to the ground. All passengers brace for impact and a distress signal is sent out. That signal is the last heard from the crew on the lander or the cruiser they rode in with.++++ The following is the stories of those that found the planet and answered the distress call, Not every call for help is answered by friends.

Out of the darkness swarming towards the crashed lander a swarm of Tyranids driven by the Hive mind are searching for survivors for information and more genetic material. They have not yet begun to devour the planet. Meanwhile landing not so far away a small contingent of chaos marines the death guard and their plague marine brothers. Led by a demon prince they to are here to search for that ancient artifact that power source. So begins the race to secure ground, set up bases scout and destroy.
The only survivors of the crash are holed up in a near by ruin a former shrine of the Adeptus Mechainicus, strange markings line the walls and the floor of the ruins. Dark energies fill the air, the Imperial researcher {name}, now awaits for rescue with two guards a veteran Sargent of the Imperial guard and an elite sniper. Little do they know that they have more company then they expect inbound to their position. Mid-day on the horizon they finally realize the predicament they are in as the horde of tyriands approaches from the north east and the land forces of Nurgle approach from the southwest. The best they can hope for now is to avoid capture until friendly force arrive.+++
*Scenario 1**With Ideas borrowed from one of WEEMEN's battle reports**
At the beginning of each round the Imperial team moves 1d6 in a random direction until one force reaches them within two inches, At that time they will control the Imperials with the objective of returning them to their own table edge. If at anytime an opposing force comes into assault with the transporting unit the Imperial team will continue to move on their own until the time when they are claimed once more by one side.

In a frantic state upon seeing these two enemies converging on their position the team scrambles heading north hoping to avoid both parties as they head for the Ridge nearby. The tyriand swarm consisting of several groups of genestealers, a broodlord, a monstrous carnifex and several scouting parties of guants advances toward the group intent on capturing them.... Alive to be served up to the hive mind. The warriors of chaos are intent on capturing the Imperials for interrogation to the location of the artifact! Noticing that the guants are closing in on them the Imperial team does an about face and starts to head south back through the ruins of the building, knowing now that it is just a matter of time before their capture they hope to avoid both pursuers for as long as possible. Unable to defend themselves with all their equipment destroyed with the wreckage escape is their best bet. Moments later a chaos rhino crashes through the western wall of the building blocking the path of the approaching tyriand forces, to the southern end of the building another rhino full of plague marines disembarks their transports and a predator belching smoke rolls to a stop to provide covering fire if needed. Before the Chaos marines have a chance to disembark their rhino is hit in the side by the Cranifex and moments later explodes as it is torn a sunder in a fury of blows. With only a few causalities the remaining marines crawl from the wreckage to be assaulted by a wave of genestealers. While the Chaos marines and the Tryiand forces are trading blows the approaching plague marines capture the Imperial team members and begin the trek back to base, the demon prince joins the fray attacking the Cranifex dealing four wounds to the beast in a volley of blows. The predator tank rolls around to the western flank and the remaining rhino to the eastern to cover the retreating forces. The battle between the demon prince and Carnifex rages on while both Genestealer and Chaos marines fall, finally the Carnifex falls as the demon prince is assaulted by lictors and the remaining genestealers. Amidst the chaos of battle the brood lord and a contingent of genestealers have been moving along the northen wall and are coming down the western flank ready to attack the predator tank. the plague marines have moved the researcher farther from the main battle but are at no means in the clear. Moments later the Demon prince falls and the genestealers are on top of the tank tearing it apart. The final push to escape the Tryiand forces proves to be futile as the genestealers leap from the remains of the tank into the plague marines decimating their ranks. Capturing the Marines prisoner the Tryiand forces having suffered fairly heavy losses take the prisoners off to the established Hive for assimilation into the hive mind.

In the conclusion of the game it had come down to kill points as neither side actually had control of the Imperial team and the game had ended on turn 5. Over all both side played an amazing game of cat and mouse. Stay tuned for the next game of the ongoing campaign, coming up Dark Angels Versus Black Templar.
