Chaos Theory

When something can go wrong it usually does. Hopefully everyone had a better Friday than i did. I was driving home from work, and boom the engine starts to die. Now to make this even better i was in the middle of a 4 lane highway with an off ramp which makes it about 6 lanes wide in rush hour traffic and there is an 18 wheeler behind me. But I managed to pull off to the left hand shoulder if that is what you can call it, there was just enough room between the guard rail and the line for my car to fit. The only good part about where I had broken down is a State trooper had just pulled someone over on the opposite side of the road and when he had finished with them came over and sat behind my car so people wouldn't hit me. Then while I was waiting for the tow truck he called another squad car and the pushed me to the right hand shoulder using there cars to push and block traffic across all 6 lanes. I thanked him and he left, I saw him a few moments later on the opposite side of the highway chasing someone or headed somewhere in a hurry. Now I just had to wait for the tow truck, in my car who's windows wouldn't go down in what I'm assuming was about 85-90 degrees with 75-80% humidity. Over all I wasn't to happy, The tow truck and my wife show up to save me at about 6:30pm.. I had left work around 5:15 broke down about 5:30. The tow truck driver says he will take my car back to my house and cut me a deal it would only cost me 90 dollars, not bad since AAA paid for the hook up. So now my car sits outside my apartment waiting for me to go downstairs and rip it apart find out what happened and fix it. Lucky for us before I worked for the cable company and started doing tattoos I was a technician so all this is really going to cost is parts and time.

Lastest Campaign update

The latest game played between my Black Templar and the Dark Angels at a points value ended in a victory for me! It was a really close game that almost game down to a kill points determination but at the last moment I contested his objective. If the game had gone on one more turn at least there is a possibility he might of up routed me or I would have eliminated his only remaining squad. After five rounds the only units left of his army were a whirlwind and a 5 man combat squad that was a man down. After the game was over we talked about what he could have done to last a little longer with his troops and what he might have changed overall. His original list consisted of a 10 man squad in a rhino, a whirlwind, a 5 man squad, another 5 man squad with his Commander and a Chaplin in Terminator armor, and lastly a dreadnought with las-cannons. My list was two ten man squads one all close combat with a melta for good measure, the other was all bolters and a melta, the Emperors champions was with the bolter squad, which is unusual for me but I thought they may need some help in the CC department so he was there more for there protection. Lastly I had a 5 man assault squad with a powerfist, melta bombs and my Marshall with a jump pack and lighting claws.

In the start of the game he was a little overly confident that he had the advantage over me due to the lack of heavy weapons and armor. I explained to him that was part of his initial mistake. Right off the back he moved his rhino towards my CC squad, the whirlwind moved into position to fire on the same squad. His command squad which was by its self on the left side of the board started closing in on my Emperors Champion and friends. In shooting the rhino popped smoke, the dreadnought fired a las cannon shot into the bolter marines but it was absorbed by a cover save. The whirlwind fired towards the CC squad but landed pretty far off its mark.

My turn, everyone moves forward, the assault marines jump into cover, and make their saves. The close combat and bolter squads move towards the Rhino and Command squad respectively. Rather than bother shooting at the front of a rhino with bolt pistols the CC squad runs forward 3 inches. On the other side the bolter marines also run forward 5 inches and still manage to find some cover for the next turn. while my Assault marines stay out of the line of sight of the dreadnought for now.

Now it was his turn again first the rhino charges forward and stops right in front of the CC squad and right next to the Assault squad, and drops its troops. Both his dreadnought and whirlwind move into firing positions. While the command squad moves forward enough to fire in the shooting phase but not assault. After all the shooting is resolved I've lost one assault marine and one bolter marine. My emperors champions and friends moves forward two inches. The assualt squad also moves foward and inch. Now its back to me, first move is to jump my assualt marines behind his troops and their rhino, the CC sqaud now moves up into the building and faces the disembarked troops and their rhino. The E.C. and company move forward just enough to make sure that they are in assualt range. In the shooting phase both the assualt marines and the CC marines unless a hail of bolt pistol shots killing three men. Next everyone assualts, my Marshall kills 4 the assualt marines fail to kill anyone this round and the CC marines finish off the squad taking a lose of two men. My E.C. kills the dark angels leader right off the bout and makes all his own saves. The bolter marines who accompany him kill three of the five men left in that squad, another dies from forced saves.

Next turn, the rhino attempts to escape then turns and fires it storm bolter at the CC squad the dreadnought is now at the edge of the building and and fires into the CC squad also, over all they lose two more men. The next shot from the whirlwind drifts off mark as does the frag missile fired from the 5 man tac squad. No loses occur in assault this turn. On my movement phase the CC squad moved out of the terrain towards the rhino, while the remaining assault marines jump over the ruined building landing in front of the dreadnought. In the shooting phase both the dreadnought and the rhino are destroyed by melta blasts! The rhino explodes killing one of the CC squads members. Finally the terminator Chaplin falls in combat and the remaining members of the squad consolidate 4 inches towards the remaining enemies who are now in the south western corner of the board. All that remains of the dark angel forces are the single whirlwind and a 5 man tac squad.

The next turn is used by the dark angels to try and kill the remaining CC marines who close in on their positions, few fall but not enough. All of my turn was used to move and run closer hoping that I will be able to capture the objective at the last moments. With just five marines in the close combat squad left, three assault marines, and my Emperors champion and his attached squad to far from the objective a final push was my only hope.

On the fifth and what would end up being the final turn the whirlwind moves behind the tactical squad both fire at the close combat marines hoping to get at least a few kills but none fall. Then my assault marines jump over to the whirlwind ready to slap melta-bombs to shell. In the assault phase (I skipped the shooting so that I would lose any assault range) my assualt marines atempt to attach the melta-bombs but fail to get a good hold. The close combat marines charge into the crater but fail to reach the enemies held up inside.

That is how our game ended the objective was contested by my forces, I never lost a full squad of men and he was down two squads and two support units. Over all it was a very interesting and fun match, it really couldnt have taken longer than an hour and a half at that.

Game 1 in the Battle for the Pleuric System

So before I start writing just going to get into a little bit of what/how I am going to be doing these posts. They are going to be battle reports but only to the point of presenting the parties involved in the conflict and the resolution of said conflict. The rest of the page is going to be of a story type pattern which will fill out the details and hopefully paint the picture of what had transpired. So without further a due lets begin.
++++An Imperial research team was sent to the Pleuric system in the Van Reilac Belt to investigate rumors of a possible ancient relic possibly even a new power source. Upon entering the atmosphere of the planet the lander transporting them to the surface of the planet is struck by a foreign object and begins to spiral out of control plummeting to the ground. All passengers brace for impact and a distress signal is sent out. That signal is the last heard from the crew on the lander or the cruiser they rode in with.++++ The following is the stories of those that found the planet and answered the distress call, Not every call for help is answered by friends.

Out of the darkness swarming towards the crashed lander a swarm of Tyranids driven by the Hive mind are searching for survivors for information and more genetic material. They have not yet begun to devour the planet. Meanwhile landing not so far away a small contingent of chaos marines the death guard and their plague marine brothers. Led by a demon prince they to are here to search for that ancient artifact that power source. So begins the race to secure ground, set up bases scout and destroy.
The only survivors of the crash are holed up in a near by ruin a former shrine of the Adeptus Mechainicus, strange markings line the walls and the floor of the ruins. Dark energies fill the air, the Imperial researcher {name}, now awaits for rescue with two guards a veteran Sargent of the Imperial guard and an elite sniper. Little do they know that they have more company then they expect inbound to their position. Mid-day on the horizon they finally realize the predicament they are in as the horde of tyriands approaches from the north east and the land forces of Nurgle approach from the southwest. The best they can hope for now is to avoid capture until friendly force arrive.+++
*************************************************************************************
*Scenario 1**With Ideas borrowed from one of WEEMEN's battle reports**
At the beginning of each round the Imperial team moves 1d6 in a random direction until one force reaches them within two inches, At that time they will control the Imperials with the objective of returning them to their own table edge. If at anytime an opposing force comes into assault with the transporting unit the Imperial team will continue to move on their own until the time when they are claimed once more by one side.
*************************************************************************************

In a frantic state upon seeing these two enemies converging on their position the team scrambles heading north hoping to avoid both parties as they head for the Ridge nearby. The tyriand swarm consisting of several groups of genestealers, a broodlord, a monstrous carnifex and several scouting parties of guants advances toward the group intent on capturing them.... Alive to be served up to the hive mind. The warriors of chaos are intent on capturing the Imperials for interrogation to the location of the artifact! Noticing that the guants are closing in on them the Imperial team does an about face and starts to head south back through the ruins of the building, knowing now that it is just a matter of time before their capture they hope to avoid both pursuers for as long as possible. Unable to defend themselves with all their equipment destroyed with the wreckage escape is their best bet. Moments later a chaos rhino crashes through the western wall of the building blocking the path of the approaching tyriand forces, to the southern end of the building another rhino full of plague marines disembarks their transports and a predator belching smoke rolls to a stop to provide covering fire if needed. Before the Chaos marines have a chance to disembark their rhino is hit in the side by the Cranifex and moments later explodes as it is torn a sunder in a fury of blows. With only a few causalities the remaining marines crawl from the wreckage to be assaulted by a wave of genestealers. While the Chaos marines and the Tryiand forces are trading blows the approaching plague marines capture the Imperial team members and begin the trek back to base, the demon prince joins the fray attacking the Cranifex dealing four wounds to the beast in a volley of blows. The predator tank rolls around to the western flank and the remaining rhino to the eastern to cover the retreating forces. The battle between the demon prince and Carnifex rages on while both Genestealer and Chaos marines fall, finally the Carnifex falls as the demon prince is assaulted by lictors and the remaining genestealers. Amidst the chaos of battle the brood lord and a contingent of genestealers have been moving along the northen wall and are coming down the western flank ready to attack the predator tank. the plague marines have moved the researcher farther from the main battle but are at no means in the clear. Moments later the Demon prince falls and the genestealers are on top of the tank tearing it apart. The final push to escape the Tryiand forces proves to be futile as the genestealers leap from the remains of the tank into the plague marines decimating their ranks. Capturing the Marines prisoner the Tryiand forces having suffered fairly heavy losses take the prisoners off to the established Hive for assimilation into the hive mind.
*************************************************************************************

In the conclusion of the game it had come down to kill points as neither side actually had control of the Imperial team and the game had ended on turn 5. Over all both side played an amazing game of cat and mouse. Stay tuned for the next game of the ongoing campaign, coming up Dark Angels Versus Black Templar.

Disaster

So in the process of stripping a pewter model with acetone the worst thing happened that could have, it spilled over my painting desk, that was full of models, bits, conversions terrain. It stripped the lines off my cutting mat, slightly melted the treads on my LRC (which actually doesn't look bad gives it some battle damage), took the clear coat off a few of my brushes and melted the bottoms of my paint bottles. Over all nothing of real importance was damaged as I have a quick reaction time and had a gallon bucket of water and everything went into it fast to dilute the acetone. It could have been much worse the demon prince that I had just finished and dull coated has not on the table and could have been.

So now I have a few things to repaint, a few things to rescuplt and the knowledge that my cat isn't going to mess with acetone again.
